Read the Bible With Us

Read, meditate, and do — together, with great resolve and joy in the Lord.

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16, ESV)

My encouragement to you is to resolve to be always meditating upon — and then practicing — God's Word. Weekly or daily, pick out some passage of Scripture to chew over in your mind. Turn it over and over, looking at it with your heart, considering it from every angle until you know it through and through.

And then put it into practice — whether that means believing something, doing something, or changing something to God's glory, that we might be better used by Him as we are on mission by prayer, worship, and love for our city. Below you'll find a Bible Reading Checklist to track your progress through every book and chapter, and several time-tested plans to guide your reading. It's not necessary (or even recommended!) to read straight through from Genesis to Revelation — it's usually best to mix book, genre, and chapter, and let the Scriptures complement and build upon one another.

Grant Horner's Ten Lists

Ten chapters a day across ten lists — total immersion in Scripture. This is the plan Pastor Brooks is working through this year.

Listen Along

I Asked My Dad — a weekly podcast of Bible commentary from Emily Woodard and her father, Dr. Mark Ross (one of Pastor Brooks's seminary professors). Seasons 1 & 3 walk through the text to help you as you read. Highly recommended. Listen on Apple Podcasts →

The ESV Bible app — free, with two excellent audio voices; this is the translation we read at Covenant. iPhone → Android →

That said, we'd gently encourage you to keep things analog where you can. The fewer phones and screens involved, the less risk of distraction in time meant for lifting heart and mind to the things of God.

As You Read

Whichever plan you choose — stick with it.

Perseverance is the key. Keep a notebook close at hand to write down questions as they come — then bring them to Evening Worship for “Questions to the Minister and Answers.” We'll be praying for you as you read.
